Description
Strive to know this wonderful man of Nazareth and not lose sight of his marvelous life in Galilee 2000 years ago and his lasting service to the human race.—David Muzzey, historian and Ethical Culture Leader
Simple things can be amazingly complex.
Try this exercise. You are sipping a cup of tea—or coffee—or beverage of your choice.
Let your mind wander back along the track by which the drink got to you. You are in for a fascinating journey. You are starting out in Sri Lanka or China or Colombia or the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. Workers in those countries cultivate the fields, international companies invest in breeding select species, harvesters send crops to market, shippers transport them over the ocean, packagers, buyers, transport vehicles, and supermarkets get involved, and you shop. And that’s just the story of the drink. Reflect on how you got the water, the sugar, the cream—and the cup. It’s an amazingly complex story. We could expand it into a book-sized account—and not get to the topic of this book! (The beverage tea gets a whole chapter in Henry Hobhouse, Seeds of Change—Five Plants That Transformed Mankind, 1986)
